Donated Crutches
In early 2021 HOSL sent over 200 pairs of crutches to Sierra Leone, thanks to a donation from Crutches for Kids. The crutches will go to adults and children in the amputee camp villages, including members of Sierra Leone's amazing amputee soccer league which is active in each of the villages. We also sent thousands of soccer uniforms and hundreds of soccer balls for schools and the amputee soccer league. Having high quality uniforms and soccer balls gives an indescribable boost to team morale! This equipment was donated by Soccer Super Stars, a private training program.

Building a Community Learning Center
Our plans are ambitious. In addition to providing ongoing school tuition, resourcing village libraries, and facilitating donations of medical equipment and other supplies, we are now planning to construct a 4 room learning center in a central village, in partnership with US African Children's Fellowship. The Maisaka Center will serve as a hub for further book distribution, a library and computer skills training facility for regional schools and local adults, and a skills exchange venue featuring classes in sewing, quilting, jewelry-making and gardening marketable vegetables.
We are now forming a local advisory committee representing different facets of the community, including women entrepreneurs, amputees, clergy, parents and educators to guide us, together with help from MIT graduate students, on the design of the building and the programs local staff will offer. The construction and operation of this project will be supported by contributions made in memory of a founder of USACF, and other families and friends who wish to memorialize people who had deep personal commitments to aiding Africa.
